Challenges

Take a Shorter Shower

Hey Guys! I hope all is well. I of course have another challenge for you today. It is also super simple and easy to do (all the challenges are simple here on 1actaday, and that's the point, making a difference easily without having to invest too much time). So, we all use water and it is a critical element to our survival, but in more developped countries I find that we use more than we need which can have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, today's challenge is to take a shorter shower. This is truly not that difficult to do and can make a bigger difference than you think. Over use of water can actually destroy certain ecosystems and uses quite a lot of energy. I know this might seem odd, but the pumps used to pump water use electricity which is of course most likely created with the use of fossil fuels which are really harmful to the environment ( I don't know if you've noticed, but like...CLIMATE CHANGE...:) ) So saving water is a great way to support the idea of a healthy planet. Make sure to let others in on today's challenge and have a beautiful day.

Before the Flood

If you haven't watched it yet then you need to. Before the Flood is a National Geographic documentary featuring Leonardo DiCaprio that stresses the major environmental issues that are occuring today. Leonardo travelled the world for two years and talk about climate change and it's causes such as deforestation and the use of fossil fuels to create electricity as well as solutions to these problems. Make sure you go check it out because it is such an amazing documentary. This is going to be the challenge for today and make sure to share this witth others.

Go on: www.BeforeTheFlood.com
Or search it up on youtube...It's free to watch from anywhere in the world!

Waste Free Food

Hey guys! I hope your all having a fabulous day. So I was thinking about the food we eat and all the waste that comes with it and thought it would be a perfect challenge for the day. Waste free meals all day. It's just because the wasteful foods can be so bad for your health and for the environment in so many ways. Most packaging is made using harmfuls toxins that then go on your food which is later eaten by you. These toxins can be so harmful to your health and can cause various health issues long term. The types of packaging include plastics and styrofoam. Styrofoam is one of the worst types of packaging because of the chemicals it releases in your food, but also because once it's made it stays as it is forever. Styrofoam is not biodegradeable and harms the environment. Packaging in general is just so horrible. This garbage is often thrown into oceans and kills various sea creature. Turtles for example mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them. By eating waste free meals you are helping yourself, saving money and helping the environment. What's bad about that? Also make sure not to use bottled water because it is one of the worst also as it releases chemicals and is most often not recycled. Make sure to tell others about today's challenge and have a beautiful day.

Screen Time

Hi! I was thinking and I realised that everyone spends too much time on either their phones or other electronics which can have a negative impact on the environment due to the electricity use and to your health. Therefore, I thought that today's challenge can involve screen time. Try to cut two hours of your screen time today and do something for yourself. I feel like everyone is too occupied with their phones and it's sad in a way because all that is being gained from that is harm. We need to spend more time doing things for ourselves and being eco-friendly at the same time because in the end, that's what matters. Encourage others to do this as well and trust me it shouldn't be too difficult of a challenge. If it is though, try to reduce your screen time, a bit everyday and eventually you will see how much you can do in a day.

Nobody Likes Litter

Hey. I'm back! I think starting off simple is the best way to start up again therefore today's challenge won't be that much of a challenge at all. All you have to do is pick up at least three pieces of trash that you may find outside on the ground and throw it away. Make sure to either recycle or compost if necessary. This might not seem very significant, but it is because every little action you do  makes a difference to the environment and to yourself. No matter how small you did something and that counts because it is better than nothing.
Also make sure to tell friends and family about this so they can help out. This way you can also teach them about the different types of waste there is and how not everyhing may belong in the trash and may belong in either the recycling or compost.

Did you know that 9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year?

Fresh Start

Many people are constantly busy. Including me. I have been caught up with school work for quite a long time. I never forgot about this blog and always kept thinking to myself that I should really take into consideration that I am almost forgetting a important and valuable part of my life. I want to create a fresh start. I want to have a schedule for when I create posts etc. I really believe that if you truly enjoy something, you can make time for it no matter what, That is exactly what I am going to do.

I would like to begin by writing posts that are more comprehensible and significant. I have looked back at my older posts from years ago and have realized that they are not all that great. I was younger and did not know many things well, but I will make up for all of it, the time lost etc.

I truly believe that I can take 1actaday to the next level. I really hope this can go somewhere. I might only be 13 years old but together we can create a difference and a big one too.

One last thing I would like to mention: Thank you! I want to thank every single person that has supported me through the past few years. I was so happy every time I  saw that I had gotten a page view. Hopefully I will succeed and raise
awareness about many issues. Our planet is truly fascinating, but if we do not make change, our future generations will be suffering. Thank you for undersanding and reading this. :)

A difference can be made. We all just have to put in a little effort, including me!

Did you know...

27,000 trees are cut down each day so we can have Toilet Paper.

When you throw plastic bags and other plastic materials in the ocean, it kills as many as 1 million sea creatures annually.

During the time it takes you to read this sentence, 50,000 12-ounce aluminum cans are made.

Clean Up Time!

Hello everyone! I hope you are having an amazing day! Today I have a pretty interesting and different challenge for you guys ( including me ). I would really appreciate it if today everyone can  encourage one other person ( friend, family member...) to do this challenge with you. The challenge is to do some spring cleaning as ecologically friendly as possible. If it is not spring where you are living, that should not be a problem because you might as well clean up! Only keep the things you need because many people have so many things they do not need. This is bad for the environment because the production of most of these objects create a lot of air pollution. Also a lot of waste is create since millions of people throw away many things.
From now on it would be really great if everyone only bought what they needed. As your doing your clean up, try to use Eco-friendly products, techniques and thoughts...this will create a huge impact if many people do this.Thank you so much for your time. I also would like to thank you for your participation.Tell your friends, family members etc, about this blog so we can raise awareness about all the horrible things that are happening in our world.

Are you buying the right cotton balls?

Hey everyone!

Are you buying the right cotton balls? Today's challenge is to check if you're buying the right cotton balls because many people buy cotton balls that aren't even made of cotton! Some cotton balls are made out of polyester which is a synthetic material that is related to plastic. First of all polyester uses 67 % more energy than the production of cotton. Second of all polyester is not organic...it is completely not Eco friendly! Also, consider buying cotton balls that are made f organic cotton or cotton balls bleached without chlorine because they are better are better for the environment, and they are better for your health!

Did you know?

It is not good to use chlorine just to make cotton balls white. Choosing to buy cotton that is whitened by Eco friendly substances such as hydrogen peroxide is a much better option. Also, did you know that cotton keeps the body cool in the summer, and warm in the winter because it is a good conductor of heat?

Use Rechargeable Batteries!

 Hey everyone!

I know I haven't been posting and I just want to say that I'm really sorry about that.today's challenge is to use rechargeable batteries instead of using regular ones. You might be thinking that I forgot that we can recycle regular batteries, but most people don't, and even recycling creates pollution on its own. Rechargeable batteries are also better for your economy because you only buy them once and just recharge them once your finished with them. Also by buying less batteries you reduce the amount of waste there is.

I also would like to mention that as you are doing this challenge, you're probably going to find old batteries (regular ones). Go ahead and recycle those. I know I just mentioned that recycling alone creates pollution, but it's much better than just throwing something in the waste. If you already use rechargeable batteries...That's great!!! Continue your great job and spread the word!

 Did you know?

Americans purchase nearly 3 billion batteries every year to power radios, toys, watches, laptops, tools and more (That's why rechargeable batteries are better for the environment and your economy).
