Grocery Bags🛍

Hey. Today's challenge is super easy, and I'm sure you are capable of doing this. Next time you go grocery buy one of those reusable grocery bags or if you have one at home bring it with you when you go grocery shopping. This prevents so much waste from plastic bags and as you know those harm the environment a lot. For example: sea turtles mistaking plastic grocery bags for jellyfish ( their food) and end up dying because they choke on these bags. Also you know, consuming plastic isn't a great idea. Anyway, that's it and I hope you have a great day. Also make sure to let others know about today's challenge.

Heating/Air Conditioning

Hey everyone! Hope you are having a fabulous day! Today's challenge is to not heat up an empty house. This mostly applies to people who are living in places where winter has come, like me. It is so wasteful to leave the heating on while nobody is in the house! I mean, most boilers are fuelled by gas, oil or electricity, which we all (hopefully) know is bad for the environment. What is the point of keeping nobody warm when you are out of the house and wasting money, when you can just shut off your heating before leaving the house? If you'd rather not completely turn off your heating completrely, then you can always just lower it a bit. I mean, every little act counts (that's the point of this blog)! If it is currently not winter where you live...and it is summer the do the opposite...Turn off your air conditioning (The most electricity is used during the summer because air conditioners use way too much electricity), and if you find it too hot, go swimming or take a cool shower! That's it for today, hope this isn't too hard for you to handle if not, way to go! Let others know about today's challenge and one more thing: I mentioned on the 1actaday instagram that I'd be posting a surprise post today, well that's postponed to tomorrow :) Have a happy rest of the day:)

Reusable Drink Containers

Hey guys. Hope that all is well. I want to apologize for not posting for a while. I got super busy and I feel really bad, so I hope you can understand. Anyway, today's challenge is to bring and start using reusable drink containers to school or work. Basically, bring your own coffee to work instead of buying it from a coffee shop. You save money, and help the earth. Same goes with water and oter drinks. Try to avoid buying any drinks at all today to reduce waste and it's healthier for you and the planet. Today's challenge is pretty easy. Also, if you don't have a reusable bottle, your challenge is to invest in one because it's totally worth it. Let your friends and family know about today's challenge and other than that have a beautiful day.

1actaday Instagram!

Hey everyone! Today's challenge is super duper easy. All you have to do is go on instagram and follow 1actaday's new account ( _1actaday_). Basically I decided to make an instagram account for this blog because I thought it would be a great way of spreading the word about the blog and also a great way of raising awareness about the environment. I'll be posting updates on what's going on and what I'm posting and a bunch of fun facts about the environment. So that's basically it! I would really appreciate it if you can tell others and spread the word about the new instagram. Other than that have a great day.

Bottles are Bad 👎🏻

Hey. Today's challenge is to avoid using anyplastic bottles which includes bottled water and soft drinks. First of all bottled water is so bad for you since it contains chemicals from the plastic it's in and also soft drinks are basically pure sugar and chemicals. I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound too good. By doing this you are helping yourself by being healthier and saving money, and you are reducing waste which is beneficial to the environment. Also plastic bottles are made of petrolium which destroys so many ecosystems when being exploited. That's it! Let your friends and family in on today's challenge and I hope you're having an amazing day.

Climate Change 🌊🌊

Hi again. As I mentioned in the previous post I will be discussing about climate change. I feel that it is an issue that should be discussed in detail, so that's why I'm doing this. So I'll start by explaining what climate change is. It is also know as global warming. So basically it's the idea that our planet's temperature is rising and this happens because of all the CO2 in the atmosphere. The sun's rays reach earth. A certain of that heat stays on the planet and another percentage goes back to space. By adding a bunch of greenhouse gazes to the atmoshere we are not permitting that heat to leave the planet so basically the more emissions the more heat. This eventually leads to thhe polar ice caps melting and obviously when ice melts it becomes water. This causes the endangerement of certain animals such as the polar bear as they lose their homes and starve to death trapped on little ice islands and in some cases drown. Sea levels then rise which eventually leads to flooding around the world and weird and dangerous weather changes. Those are the consequences of climate change. What leads up to it is as bad. I'll discuss the biggest emittors of CO2 and/or methane, fossil fuels. The biggest use for them are to create electricity. The different types of exploitation of these fossil fuels (coal, natural gaz, and oil) is so bad for the environment. Whole ecosystems are destroyed because of mining and this involves deforestation which leads to loss of habitats for animals which leads to the extinction of animals. The worst part is When these ecosystems are destroyed nobody cares to fix them. They just move to the next place. I mean I don't understand, fossil fuels are eventually going to be completely gone...it's not a long lasting source of energy. That is why renewable energy sources such as water wind and the sun are way better options. The reason why these companies exploit fossil fuels is because it's cheaper and easier and provides short term money, but a lot of it. Anyway, this is why I started 1actaday. I believe if everybody does one small green act every day we can make some difference. It may not seem much to you individually, which is the point because it's supposed to be easy, but imagine if a bunch of people where to do that same act on that day. It accumulates. A metaphor to better understand: someone wants to buy a something for 1000 dollars, thhe money is a lot for just him, but if 1000 people were each to pay one dollar it would accumulate and one dollar is not a big deal for one person. So yeah...I'll end it here. Hope the rest of your day is good.

Water Conservation

Hey guys! I hope you are having a fabulous day If not I'm wishing a happy day for you. Today's challenge involves saving water. I've previously discussed the benefits of this for the environment, but basically by saving water you are saving electricity and less carbon emissions are produced. So if the challenge is to turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. It's super simple and if you already d that like me that's great. Also in some countries you have to pay for water use so you'll be saving money which is always a bonus. So as I was saying, if you already do this try taking a shorter shower or maybe try not to waste any electricity. In any case you are contributing to the biggest issue today, climate change. By the way, I'm planning on having another "Little Talk" about climate change because I feel like it is an issue that has to be discussed in more detail. So yeah...That's today's challenge and make sure to tell friends and family about it.

Electricity Use Part Two

Hey! Hope your having a wonderful day. Today's challenge is quite similar to one of the recent posts. It involves electricity use once again, but through electronic devices. Last time, the challenge was to not use any electronic devices for a couple of hours I believe, but today's challenge is to avoid using any electronic devices at all for the whole day. This may seem difficult, but if you can get occupied doing other fun things it's not that hard. Of course, If you really need to use an electronic device, then you should (Like or work or school or any other important subjects). So that's it! Let others in on today's challenge and see who is able to avoid the use of electronic devices for the longest amount of time.

A Little Talk

I was thinking about something that I think about quite often and decided to share a few of my thoughts and opinions. I was wondering why all the horrible things that happen to our planet happen. I mean of course the first thing that popped in my head was mankind, but then I thought what could have possibly motivated people to destroy our only home Earth? I realised the answer is money. People seem to care about short term pleasure and success through money, but don't think about how gaining that money is not that great long-term as it is the money that is made from fossil fuel exploitation that is gained. I mean is our economy truly more important than our home? Well I don't think so. Sure I agree with the fact that a good and stable economy can be necessary for a happy society, but if it costs our planet and lives it's not worth it. Also if the planet falls we will fall with it. I think our environment is truly the priority here, and if you believe otherwise, that our economy is more important during this period of time, I respect your opinion, but think about this: What are you going to do with all that money when mankind is wiped out and the whole world is flooded with water due to climate change.

That's what I wanted to share and I hope you can understand my perspective on this issue.

Electricity use

Hey everyone! Sorry about the last few days. I got a bit off track because I had to catch up on some stuff, but I'll make sure to try to post every day as much as I possibly can. Today I thought we can try to save some energy. Since this is a huge issue today COUGH COUGH..CLIMATE CHANGE...I thought that by turning off the lights in one room of your house for the day wouldn't be that hard and would contribute to the issue. As I've mentioned probably a million times, fossil fuels are destroying our planet and that is because of our electricity consumption. Really try to do this challenge today because I feel like it will make much more of a difference than any previous challenges. To help you out: try keeping the lights turned off in your least used room (so not the kitchen..unless...I don't know how you live so I'll just ignore that). Spread the word about today's challenge with others and about this blog <3 because you love the environment <3 Oh! And make sure to have a beautiful day!

Take a Shorter Shower

Hey Guys! I hope all is well. I of course have another challenge for you today. It is also super simple and easy to do (all the challenges are simple here on 1actaday, and that's the point, making a difference easily without having to invest too much time). So, we all use water and it is a critical element to our survival, but in more developped countries I find that we use more than we need which can have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, today's challenge is to take a shorter shower. This is truly not that difficult to do and can make a bigger difference than you think. Over use of water can actually destroy certain ecosystems and uses quite a lot of energy. I know this might seem odd, but the pumps used to pump water use electricity which is of course most likely created with the use of fossil fuels which are really harmful to the environment ( I don't know if you've noticed, but like...CLIMATE CHANGE...:) ) So saving water is a great way to support the idea of a healthy planet. Make sure to let others in on today's challenge and have a beautiful day.

Before the Flood

If you haven't watched it yet then you need to. Before the Flood is a National Geographic documentary featuring Leonardo DiCaprio that stresses the major environmental issues that are occuring today. Leonardo travelled the world for two years and talk about climate change and it's causes such as deforestation and the use of fossil fuels to create electricity as well as solutions to these problems. Make sure you go check it out because it is such an amazing documentary. This is going to be the challenge for today and make sure to share this witth others.

Waste Free Food

Hey guys! I hope your all having a fabulous day. So I was thinking about the food we eat and all the waste that comes with it and thought it would be a perfect challenge for the day. Waste free meals all day. It's just because the wasteful foods can be so bad for your health and for the environment in so many ways. Most packaging is made using harmfuls toxins that then go on your food which is later eaten by you. These toxins can be so harmful to your health and can cause various health issues long term. The types of packaging include plastics and styrofoam. Styrofoam is one of the worst types of packaging because of the chemicals it releases in your food, but also because once it's made it stays as it is forever. Styrofoam is not biodegradeable and harms the environment. Packaging in general is just so horrible. This garbage is often thrown into oceans and kills various sea creature. Turtles for example mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them. By eating waste free meals you are helping yourself, saving money and helping the environment. What's bad about that? Also make sure not to use bottled water because it is one of the worst also as it releases chemicals and is most often not recycled. Make sure to tell others about today's challenge and have a beautiful day.

Screen Time

Hi! I was thinking and I realised that everyone spends too much time on either their phones or other electronics which can have a negative impact on the environment due to the electricity use and to your health. Therefore, I thought that today's challenge can involve screen time. Try to cut two hours of your screen time today and do something for yourself. I feel like everyone is too occupied with their phones and it's sad in a way because all that is being gained from that is harm. We need to spend more time doing things for ourselves and being eco-friendly at the same time because in the end, that's what matters. Encourage others to do this as well and trust me it shouldn't be too difficult of a challenge. If it is though, try to reduce your screen time, a bit everyday and eventually you will see how much you can do in a day.

Nobody Likes Litter

Hey. I'm back! I think starting off simple is the best way to start up again therefore today's challenge won't be that much of a challenge at all. All you have to do is pick up at least three pieces of trash that you may find outside on the ground and throw it away. Make sure to either recycle or compost if necessary. This might not seem very significant, but it is because every little action you do  makes a difference to the environment and to yourself. No matter how small you did something and that counts because it is better than nothing.
Also make sure to tell friends and family about this so they can help out. This way you can also teach them about the different types of waste there is and how not everyhing may belong in the trash and may belong in either the recycling or compost.
