Hemp Seeds

I am aware that this doesn't necessarily need a whole post to itself, but I forgot to add it in so yeah. A snack that Ii have often (even for breakfast sometimes) is yoghurt with hemp seeds. Honestly, at first, the idea of eating seeds that come from cannabis worried me a little. It turns out they are super healthy and do not contain THC (the chemical that may cause someone to be high). They taste pretty ok I guess.I mean they don't have a particular taste, but when you add then to smoothies or yoghurt they are really good. I also would recommend chia seeds...they're really good.

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place!

Catching Up Part 2

Hey. I know this is like from a couple of weeks ago, but might as well post them up now. Here are the last three fun facts of the week we were raising awareness:

Our New Friends!!

Hey there. It's Stella!! So you guys remember last weeks challenge? Well, Julia and I, of course,
participated as well! We went out today to Reno Depot and bought ourselves some plants! I will be showing pictures and will write a little about each of the plants hopefully encouraging you to be interested in purchasing your own.

Firstly, let me just say that plants are amazing. They give life to any environment and are really great house buddies. I am personally obsessed with plants because I love them so much and can't stop wanting more. I know you may be thinking that you aren't a plant person and that your plants always die on you, but trust me the following plants are great for anyone and easy to care for.

Julia's Plants:

1) Haworthia:

Light: Haworthia's will take various light conditions except for direct sunlight or deep shade.

Watering: A Haworthia is able to survive by being watered only once a month, but for a thriving plant watering when the soil is dry is necessary. Haworthia's are very tolerant of underwatering,  but overwatering will cause rotting.

Humidity: No significant value.

Temperature: Average warmth between Spring and Autumn/Fall, but a bit cooler in the winter...not too cold, though.

2) Jade:

Light: Direct sunlight is necessary for good growth.

Watering: When soil seems to be dry water...do not soak, though.

Humidity: Not necessary.

Temperature: On the higher side in the morning and a bit cooler at night...considering the direct sunlight, the temperature should be fine.

My Plant:

3) Spoon Jade:

Light: Full sunlight or partial shade. The spoon jade adapts in either situation.

Watering: The spoon jade is very good at surviving in dry environments, therefore it is easy to care. Water when dry.

Humidity: Could use a misting every now and then for moisturization.

Temperature: Room temperature is recommended.

That's it, guys! Hope you've liked this post and found it useful!! Also feel free to comment.

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place <3

Vegetarian eh?

Hello it's Julia again ☺️ So Stella and I thought it would be a cool idea to share what we'll be eating for the week because of the Eco friendly diet challenge. So we're both vegetarian, so this week we are trying to eat a little more vegan. We'll post every day of what we had for breakfast, lunch and dinner 🍴! We'll also try to share some fun recipes for you to try if you're having a hard time thinking of things to make.
Okay so what I had for...
Breakfast:
Quinoa puff cereal with some raisins and flaxseed (to get my daily dose of omega 3). I used almond milk which is great if your not a fan of soy milk. You can also find coconut, rice 🍚, cashew and hemp milk pretty easily.
Lunch:
Chickpea salad sandwich (instead of tuna, egg, and chicken) with this homemade hummus bread I made over the weekend (recipe for bread and chickpea salade will be down bellow)
Dinner: quinoa salad 🥗 (from Costco 😂) and a bagel with hummus and 🥒.  I also had an energy ball for dessert (link to recipe down below).

This is what Stella ate today:
Organic Kashi cereal with blueberries.
Lunch:
Spinach and cheese mini pie.
Dinner:
Lentil soup 🍜

Chickpea salad sandwich:
Cup of chickpeas (mashed with a fork)
2 tbs of vegan mayo
Some Siracha
1/4 cup of chopped celery
And some salt and pepper to taste

Bread ( btw this is so easy to make, you just mix and bake)

Energy balls:

Eco-Friendly Diet!

Hi guys, I'm Julia (Stella's new helper)! I am so pumped to be the new addition to 1actaday, and I'm just so thankful that Stella even asked me to join. She is so dedicated, driven, and passionate about helping the environment❤️. I'm just really excited to help spread the word about how to be more environmentally friendly. So this week's challenge is about changing your diet. So this might sound a little confusing, but this challenge will be split into different parts (which will correspond to your existing diet). Just scroll down until the question matches you!

1. Do you eat meat with most meals, but would like to reduce your carbon footprint 👣? Well reducing the amount of meat you eat throughout the week can actually help a lot. Meat production actually creates more carbon emissions than all the cars, planes and busses in the world 🌎! This might sound funny, but livestock farts, belches and excrement are one of the reasons for why meat production is so awful for the planet. They create methane which is 21 times worse than CO2. Livestock also takes up 160 times more land then plant based agriculture, and uses up an almost unbelievable amount of water (for example, it takes 660 gallons of water to make one burger 😱😱). If trying to give up all meat is to hard for you, you could also try and stop eating red meat because cows are by far the leading contributor in all of the problems I just mentioned! There are many other benefits in becoming vegetarian (such as health and economic ones), if you curious about them visit https://www.downtoearth.org/go-veggie/top-10-reasons

2. Are you vegetarian or pescatarian? Well, being vegetarian is amazing in so many ways, but you could always do more. Eating a vegan diet might sound hard, but as long as you find the right substitutes, you'll be fine. Going vegan has a long list of benefits, but as for the environmental ones they are pretty much the same as going vegetarian. The only difference is that eating a completely plant based diet reduces your carbon footprint by even more. You wouldn't be contributing to the production of cows for milk, which is great because cows make methane (and as I said in last paragraph is 21 times worse than co2). Scientists say that 51% of greenhouse gases come from animal agriculture, so then going vegan wouldn't contribute to that 51% at all! If you are more interested in becoming vegan and it's long list of benefits, go visit http://www.nursingdegree.net/blog/19/57-health-benefits-of-going-vegan/

3. Are you vegan? All I have to say to you is that you are doing wonders in helping to stop global warming ❤️🙌🏽!!! If you'd like to do even more, you could send a link to this blog to some friends who are also environmentally conscious!

If you read this whole post, I really appreciate it and you deserve 1000 awesome points! I hope this post was informative and I hope you'll partake in this week's challenge!
Love,
Julia ❤️😘

New Member!!!!

Hey everyone! So I decided that I wouldn't do Rant Friday today and that Inwould reveal some news! I have a really good friend Julia who I go to school with. We both are very passionate about the environment and 1actaday seemed to intrigue a lot...so I decided why not add a new member to 1actaday. I think it's a great idea because honestly I could really use some help and I feel that Julia knows her stuff relating to the environment very well. She will post for the first time on Sunday and I'm honestly very excited! Also I think that next week I'm gonna do something relating to getting to know us better. Like obviously for Julia since she is new...but also maybe for me because I don't talk about myself much. Anyway that's it for today! Have a beautiful day lovelies!

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place! ❤️

Plants!🌱

Hey. So today is the first day/ week where we will try out the new system I wrote about a few posts ago. So there will be one challenge that you can do every day of the week or one you could do throughout the week. Of course you are free to do both. So this week the challenge is to buy a houseplant! I thought this would be a great challenge and you have a whole week to do it. A new friend wouldn't do you any harm and plants are beautiful. If you are worried about taking care of it, do some research. That is the main challenge for the week. Now I will give you the other option or part depending if you want to do both or not. This one is pretty simple and I've used it many times before. Turn off the lights in the rooms that are not being used and unplug appliances that are not being used including your television. This is a great way to reduce your electricity consumption which reduces your carbon footprint and saves money! Anyway that's it! Feel free to let me know how this system works for you on either instagram or facebook. Also I will be posting a photo of the plant I'm going to buy later on in the week!

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place!

Love Stella ❤️

Rant Friday: Urban Bee-keeping

Hello! So today's the first official Rant Friday. This is something that's been bothering me for quite some time. The thing is I really wanted to start urban bee-keeping. I had a huge conversation with my parents last year and they considered my points. Honestly we had literally nothing to lose, and I thought it would be a great idea. I was confident afterwards that we can get a hive. Then recently my mom just decided that she changed her mind. She said they would bother people, but no offence the bees have work to do and they couldn't care less about people around them unless their queen was in danger. Anyway I am really upset about this. I wish I were able to hve my own land and the freedom to make choices on my own. I even promised to take care of all the money and care involved in having a hive. It's sad. I know for sure though that once I'm older and have the freedom to make my own decisions and act on them like in situations like this one, I will get a bee hive. I'm not necessarily upset at my mother, but more at the fact that such a harmless thing can't be executed. If anything and now that I think about it, urban bee-keeping helps the environment. Basically I'm sad and I will make sure to never forget about this in my future so that I can finally attain this goal of mine.

Hope you've liked the first Rant Friday!!

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place❤️

New System??

Hello! So I was thinking....I'm probably going to change the system of 1actaday. What I mean by this is when I post and what I post. So I get really busy often because of school and other things that may be going on in my life. I am sure you guys experience the same...work and all that jazz, and I thought it would be way easier if I organised how I post differently. I think it would be way for me and you this way. It's just very hard to be posting a new idea every single day and I'm sure it's difficult to stay informed everyday as a reader. Without taking away the goal of 1actaday (doing one act a day) I found a solution. I will be posting a main challenge for the whole entire week. So like a weekly challenge every Sunday which will apply for the whole entire week. One thing that you have to do every day of the week,of course the challenges will remain simple and that's what makes it work. This way it's easier for me and you this way!! I will post other posts also throughout the week not necessarily relating to the challenge. Also I may be posting another challenge that could be done anytime throughout the week like for example: to buy a houseplant. This way you can choose what you prefer: a small action everyday, or a bit of a larger action every week...or both If you are that amazing!! I will begin this system and see how it works out this Sunday. Welp that's it!! Also stay tuned tomorrow for the first Rant Friday (I know I said I would post last Friday but I kind of forgot...oops.)
I'm aware that this picture hasn't got much to do with what I was talking about, but I found it cute...Yup..that;s how I roll...Don't judge<3

Catching up!!

Hey. So I finally got a hold of a computer where I can post pictures on the blog. Previously I wasn't able to post my raising awareness posts because I was using an Ipad which wouldn't allow me to. You probably noticed the issue in the previous post. So I will post the last three posts. I might just go three by three because I'm not sure if I can borrow my cousin's laptop everyday. If you really want to see one everyday check the instagram account or the facebook page.

Raising Awareness Day#1

It's your turn to raise awareness! 👍

Hey everyone. I'm very excited about today's challenge because I believe it will be more interactive and more fun! Basically, today it's your turn to raise awareness about an environmental issue that concerns you. I also love this idea because there is so much freedom to it. You can do almost anything from raising awareness about climate change to the endangerement of honey bees. If you are not sure what to share with people, you can always do some research or you can contact me by sending me a message on our new instagram account or facebook page. Of course, even if you do have an idea, doing research will only confirm and add to your information. To actually do this of course pick a subject regarding the environment that you would like to share, and by using social media, or by physically telling people yourself, you will succeed. Don't be afraid to get creative with this. Feel free to make posters, post on the internet and anything else you can think of! Don't think I won't be doing this myself as well. I participate in every daily challenge just like you guys, so make sure to be expecting me to do my part! If your posting on instagram, make sure to tag _1actaday_ in it so I can see what your doing, or if you are using facebook feel free to message me your work. Same goes with ideas that are not necessarily using social media, you can always message me pictures! Anyway that's it! I hope this isn't too difficult. I think it'll be fun! This is your chance to prove yourself as someone who truly cares about making a difference. Have a beautiful day lovelies! ❤️

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place! 😊

Grocery Shopping

Hey guys! I am aware that this challenge may remind you of the one from a while ago,but trust me they still have their differences. So buying our food is a huge part of our lives because food is essential to our survival. By shopping in a environmentally friendly manner you are making a huge difference. Basically, I will tell you all the various options you have and little things you can do to change this part of your lifestyle. Of course you are not required to do all of these as it can see overwhelming, but you are always welcome to. Firstly, use and bring your own reusable bags instead of using plastic ones that are given to you at the grocery store. Another thing is what you decide to buy. By buying organic and generally healthy foods you are supporting a clean environment for several reasons. Also, buying grains and foods such as nuts in bulk is a great option. Food these days comes with so much unneeded packaging. By buying in bulk you are reducing waste production and simultaneously eating healthier. Most healthy foods do not come in that much packaging and can cost way less. So you save money and are rewarding your body. The last thing is to buy what you need. Of course it is important to treat yourself every now and then, but do you really need that bag of Cheetos? Anyway, that is what I encourage you take into consideration next time you go grocery shopping and if you are not the one who takes care of that in the family, why don't you go grocery shopping with them next time and choose some greener options?

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place! <3

Have a beautiful day lovelies!

Eco-friendly Travelling

Hey! Hope your day has been great so far! Today I have a challenge that I hope won't be challenging for you. The topic is eco-friendly travelling. Basically, what you have to do to make your difference is to avoid using a car to travel around throughout the day. Try public transportation, biking or even walking to where you have to go. If you truly have no other choice than to use a car to get yourself around, carpool. This is a very effective way to reduce your carbon footprint and at the same time you are encouraging others to act in an environmentally friendly manner. The more the better right! So that is it.
Make sure to check out the 1actaday Instagram account if you haven't already and follow for fun facts about the environment and a bit more about the daily challenge as well as other exciting news!

Thank you for caring and keep making the world a better place! <3
